I have learned a tremendous amount in starting up four of my own businesses and working with numerous other startups over the past 22 years. I also understand how times have changed; what worked even as early as two years ago is only partially relevant. Successful Business Plan CreationDesign a business plan that speaks directly to investor concerns, without overwhelming them with information that is either distracting, off-putting, or both. It must be real, honest, compelling, speak to every one of the key investor concerns, and capable of being substantiated. Make sure you get it right the first time. The first investor you test it out on, and fail with, may have been your best opportunity. Successful Presentations to Potential InvestorsOften more important than a detailed business plan is a business presentation that makes a case that speaks directly to investor concerns. You need a presentation that is brief, succinct, and covers all of the points that are of concern to investors. Business StrategyIf you don’t have a viable strategy, the greatest execution, even if well funded, will fail. It’s said that most companies fail due to insufficient funding, but that’s similar to saying that most people in car crashes die of cardiac arrest. With a bad strategy, sooner or later the money will run out, no matter how much you have. The trick is to tune your strategy to the available funding, either making conservative guesses or by taking a calculated gamble. If your approach is conservative, you have to make the hard choices up front. If you bet the farm, the hard choices are made for you. Good strategies focus on available, or likely funding, and deal effectively with product viability, appropriate pricing, competitive positioning, reliable distribution and customer service. Everything else is secondary. I can help you develop the right strategy, plan and presentations to give you the greatest chances of success. I can also help you with opportunities to present to potential investors.
